Zonophone Oil Painting "Sing Me A Song" Barbara Rudolph

 "Sing Me A Song"
Original Oil on Canvas
30 x 24"

"Sing Me A Song"
Hanging at the 2012 "Celebration of Fine Art" show in Scottsdale, Arizona

This is my finished "oil painting" of an antique "Zonophone" I call "Sing Me A Song."  The little curious bird is looking inside waiting to hear the music come out...or....is it the other way around...and the bird is singing? The idea for this oil painting started last summer when I saw the "zonophone" at the Musical Instrument Museum.  I then began the search for just the right bird in just the right position.  I came across a fun bird blog called "Burdz Buttz" by a man named Dave Lewis.  (He takes wonderful photographs of birds from behind.)   I wrote to him and asked permission to use his bird photo in my painting.  He was kind enough to allow me to do so.  See his blog here:

The oil painting is now hanging in my studio at the "Celebration of Fine Art".  This show is a wonderful event and will be open through March 25th in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Gambel's Quail painting "The Gambling Quail"

"The Gambling Quail"

We have so many "gambel's quail"  running around in Arizona.  They are so fun to watch.   I thought this would make a fun painting, so I painted a male "gambel's quail" as if he is getting ready to roll the dice.  He is in charge and ready for action.  This new oil painting is 10x6x2.5" painted on gallery wrapped canvas.  It will be for sale at the opening of the "Celebration of Fine Art" in Scottsdale.  It opens on Saturday.  See links for more details.

Bohemian Violin Scroll with Goldfinch

This new oil painting of a "Bohemian violin" has a little "goldfinch" sitting on top of the scroll.  I haven't decided upon the title yet, but it will be available at the "Celebration of Fine Art" show next week in Scottsdale.  The actual beautiful instrument is also available at the "Wyatt Violin Shop" in Kansas City.  They are dealers in fine violins and bows and also specialize in restoration.  They kindly offered me the photos of the "Bohemian Scroll" for painting reference.

Red Shoe and Hummingbird painting

This little "oil painting" is of a "hummingbird" sitting on a "red shoe."  It is actually an IOU for an artist friend of mine.  It measures 8x8" on gallery wrapped canvas.  I will also have more like this one at the "Celebration of Fine Art" which opens on January 14th in Scottsdale.   This year I'll have two of these little "shoe paintings" in giclees available too.  They will be on my website for sale as soon as they are ready, and will be only $85.00 each (with an easel.).
