Painting Eastern Kingbird - "Sky King"

"Sky King"

This new oil painting of an "Eastern Kingbird" is sitting on a branch against the sky.  The photograph came out a little dark, but the sky in this painting turned out really nice.  I chose to paint a neutral colored bird like the "Eastern Kingbird" because I wanted to keep the eye focused on the sky in the painting as much as on the bird.  It is now available at the "Celebration of Fine Art."  The show runs until the last Sunday in March.  For more information about this 24 x 24" oil painting you can contact me.

Chipping Sparrow Oil Painting

"You Lookin at Me?"

This new oil painting I was working on came out nice.  I think "sparrows" are fun to paint and have so many subtle color variations that make them great subjects.  I was having a little wood frame built for this 8 x 8" oil painting, however it sold before he made it into the frame.  One of my favorite clients stopped in the "Celebration of Fine Art" yesterday and spotted him.  I know it will have a good home now next to one of my favorite "bluebird" paintings she purchased last year.  I will have to get busy and paint some more since we have less than 5 weeks left of the ten week show.  (It always goes by in a flash.)

Oil Painting Rickenbacker Guitar with Hummingbird "Little Ricky"

"Little Ricky"

This new oil painting of a "Rickenbacker guitar" has a little "hummingbird" sitting on top.  I photographed various "guitars" recently and this one was in the "Musical Instrument Museum" (MIM).  I thought it would be fun to just paint the neck of the "guitar" and then put one of my little "birds" on top.   The unique design of the "Rickenbacker 360" has turning keys perpendicular to each other.  I think it is a very special painting and it has had a wonderful response so far at the "Celebration of Fine Art" show in Scottsdale.  The strings took me an extra long time to complete, but it is now dry and is for sale at the show.  It is 20" x 5".  You can contact me for more information.

Royal Typewriter Painting with Warbler "Tell Me A Story"

"Tell Me A Story"
30 x 24" Oil on Canvas

Everyone loves a good story and this little "warbler" is waiting for one more to be told.  This old "Royal Typewriter" belongs to a writer friend of mine, and when I saw it last summer I decided that I had to paint it.  I photographed it from many different angles and then selected a simple position to paint a very complicated work in oil.  I always paint a little "bird" into my paintings and this little "bird" seemed perfect for the composition.

This painting took many months to complete and is for sale now at the "Celebration of Fine Art" show in Scottsdale, Arizona.   If you would like more information about this painting please contact me, and see more on my website.
