Painting Birds - "Bird Watchin"

"Bird Watchin"

Just finished!  "Bird Watchin"  This oil painting is a little sneak preview of the direction I am working in for the next "Celebration of Fine Art" 2011.   This little bird is sitting upon a stack of field guide books and binoculars.  He is the one doing all of the "watchin."  "Bird Watchin" was painted on 14x11" canvas and is framed.  I will be offering it in a small giclee edition as well.  I will also have several more in the near future from my "murder mystery" series, so stay tuned in!

Icon contemporary painting "The Messenger"

"The Messenger"

I used to paint a lot of these "Icon" paintings that I call "contemporary icons."  This one of an "angel" just sold at one of my galleries.  It is a "mixed media"  painting on canvas with an ornate frame.  I am represented by a gallery in Tucson, Arizona that still sells some in this series.  I only do the "Contemporary Icons" by commission now, but there are still a few available in various sizes for sale.  You can contact me for more information at:  br1fineart@cox.net

Floral painting Red Poppy

The Language of Flowers

This "floral painting" of a "Red Poppy" is a mixed media painting on canvas.  I call it "The Language of Flowers."  It is 36" x 18" and includes a beautiful gold leaf border.  There is a deep red underpainting that helps create an old world feel to the background.  The "red poppy" is painted over calligraphy.  These paintings are fun to do and I can custom paint one in any size.  You can see more on my website at:

Raphael's Three Graces - Travel Journal Painting

"Travel Journal - The Three Graces"

My "Travel Journal" series is back now that the hot summer is here.  So many people I know are taking all their wonderful vacations now.  This is the time when I like to begin a new series of "Travel Journal" paintings, and to take a little break from my detailed bird series paintings.  I also still have a few available from last winters show, like the one pictured above.  This little mixed media painting of Raphael's "Three Graces" was created on gallery wrapped canvas size 8x8".  It includes gold leaf elements, collage, acrylic paint and a beautiful postage stamp from Paraguay.  I love to collect old postage stamps to use in my "Travel Journal" creations.
They are reasonable in price and make wonderful gifts.  For more information you can contact me at:  br1fineart@cox.net

Oil Spill Disaster "How You Can Help"

The oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico will undoubtedly impact the bird populations in the region for years to come.  There are ways that we all can help.   You can click on http://www.houstonaudubon.org  and then get all the latest news and information you need from:

"National Wildlife Refuge Association"  for current updates on the impact that the oil spill is having on the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuges.

"U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service"  for the latest news on the oil spill response and actions that are being taken by the Gulf Coast National Wildlife Refuges

"American Bird Conservancy"  They have prepared a list of the top ten sites in the Gulf which are at most immediate risk from the oil spill.  They also have a map of globally important bird areas along the Gulf Coast.

"DeepwaterHorizon.com"  U.S. Government website

Each of these sites have good information on ways that we can donate or help.  We need to take care of our birds as well as our environment.
