Bird Series - "Hummin Along"

"Hummin Along"

This new oil painting is on gallery wrapped canvas.  (24"x6"x2")  The border of my painting was created with various layers of texture to create the embossed design.  I then carefully apply my gold leaf over a bright red background.  The leaf is very fragile and will show cracks and breaks naturally, so I like to have that little tiny bit  of red showing through.  I then apply several layers of paint over the gold leaf to create an old world look.  Once the border was complete, I painted my hummingbird in flight in oil.   I call it "Hummin Along."

It is now available at "The Signature Gallery Santa Fe"

Celebration of Fine Art ends...Saying good-bye

Wow!  The "Celebration of Fine Art" 2010 show has ended.  The ten week show always goes by so fast for me.  Everyone packed up their paintings, sculptures, jewelry and glass to head home.  It is always hard to say good-bye to everyone.   The good news is we will all hopefully see eachother again in 9 months with many new creations.  Some of my artist friends above are painters "Bradford Brenner",  Melissa Behr, Fiona Purdy, Penny Benjamin Peterson, Mac Stevenson, glass artist Kevin Powers, and sculptor Tom Belloni & his wife Marlene...who makes the best cookies in the entire world, and Kyle Ashley's huge junk metal dinosaur sculpture.    They all came out from Utah, California, Massachusetts and a few of us from Arizona.   It was an absolute blast.  I think I painted more paintings during this year's show than I have in the past 4 shows.  I am really having fun with my bird series of paintings.  I have so many ideas for next year's show that I better get started on now.  Hope you can make it.

Bird Series - "Little Mozart"

Little Mozart

This new oil painting was to be the companion piece for "Little Beethoven." (That one sold).  It all started when I read that the first 5 sounds a song sparrow makes matches Beethoven's 5th Symphony.  I thought that would make a great title for a little bird series of paintings.  "Little Mozart" is 20"x20" on gallery wrapped canvas.  It is an oil painting with a gold leafed border and includes painted musical notes of Mozart.  It is for sale now at the "Celebration of Fine Art" show in Scottsdale.  For more information you can contact me at:  br1fineart@cox.net

Bird Series "The Bird of the Month Club"

"The Bird of the Month Club"

This is a brand new oil painting I titled:  "The Bird of the Month Club."  The canvas size is 16"x 12" and it features a  Prothonotary Warbler standing proudly upon a stack of Audubon & Peterson's guide books that belonged to my father.  His hobby was bird carving and he just recently passed away.   This painting is one I know he would have really gotten a kick out of.  It is still wet, but I gently placed it in this frame until it drys.  I will take a better photograph of it once it is varnished.  It is for sale now at the "Celebration of Fine Art" show in Scottsdale, Arizona until March 28th.

Bird Series - "Sunday Brunch II"

"Sunday Brunch II"

I just finished this little oil painting from my "Sunday Brunch" series.  I have it on display at the "Celebration of Fine Art" but it is on hold for someone.  I enjoy painting these little Spanish dishes with the birds, they are becoming popular.  Although this one has sold I love to do commissions.  For more information you can contact me at:  br1fineart@cox.net
