My father had a wonderful hobby of carving birds that he became quite good at. For years he would always say to me that I should paint some birds. I really wasn't interested however in that as a subject matter at the time. I continued on my way to paint just about anything except "birds." He suffered a series of strokes just over a year ago, and really was not able to recall his memory of that hobby. One day last fall I decided to paint a little bird to bring by for him to look at, and to see if it would stir up his memory a little bit. He smiled a big smile and nodded an approving nod, so I began my "bird series." I have since sold the one I named "Roy" after my dad, but will continue to enjoy watching and painting birds now for as long as I am able. They are so much fun to paint.
This little oil painting is of a wood duck, and is 4"x4".
I will have it framed and available for purchase on my website, or my next show. Contact me for information at:

This is an oil painting that was inspired by a beautiful doorway that I photographed while visiting San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
A few summers back I took an oil painting workshop in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The mornings and afternoons were spent painting, while the late afternoons were free to spend time wandering the narrow cobblestone streets of the city. The colonial architecture of San Miguel is lovely and the streets are lined with elegant stores, art galleries, quaint hotels and beautiful homes. One of the things I liked the best was the beautiful carved wood doors on many of the homes, and I just had to paint this little Mexican jay. San Miguel is an art lover's dream.

Last winter I had fun painting a little bird with a pretty Mexican dish, that I titled, "The Salsa Dish." It was a popular painting at my last show, so I decided to collect a few more little dishes to paint with my birds. This new oil painting is titled, "Sunday Brunch" and is a 12" x 6" oil on canvas.

It will be available at The Celebration of Fine Art show coming this winter, or you can contact me now for a pre sale at:

Looking forward to fall...
Everyone needs a little color and beauty in their life. This is my very first posting on my new blog. My very good friend and fellow artist has been encouraging me to create a blog for some time now. It will be a place where I can share some of my experiences as well as my latest original paintings. I hope I can plant some seeds of creativity and inspiration as well as share my new work with you.
